Research

In the Sustainability Transition Policy team, we conduct problem-driven, interdisciplinary research about the transition to climate neutrality, particularly focusing on decarbonisation of the energy system. Our key aim is to inform policy choices, policy design and evaluation for a rapid and socially just transition with robust scientific insight.

Our research is empirically driven, seeking to inform future decisions about effects and interactions of policies and policy mixes. We investigate all transition stages, from innovation and diffusion of zero-carbon technologies, to the needed reconfiguration of infrastructures, institutions and regulations: a transition to zero carbon is more than simply replacing one technology with another. Our work is rooted in transition studies, but is strongly interdisciplinary, building on theories and methods from several social scientific disciplines.
